Updating Immunization Records
Since April 2015, Ottawa Public Health (OPH) has been reviewing the immunization records of 150,000 students attending elementary and secondary schools in Ottawa to make sure the information is up-to-date. Updates on immunizations are crucial information to protect the health of students during an infectious disease outbreak, such as measles.
As of early October 2015, the immunization records of 50,000 children in Ottawa are still incomplete. Under the Immunization of School Pupils Act (ISPA), students attending school in Ontario are required to be vaccinated against nine diseases or have a valid exemption. Parents are required to provide this information to school boards at kindergarten registration. Parents are also required to report all additional immunizations that are done at the doctor's office after kindergarten to Ottawa Public Health on an ongoing basis.
In the months ahead, OPH will be sending letters to parents if their child’s records are not up-to-date. A suspension from school may be issued if a student’s record remains incomplete. Written notices will be mailed between late October 2015 and early January 2016 and school suspensions will be staggered between early December 2015 and March 2016.
Parents who receive a letter requesting immunization information can contact OPH by phone at 613-580-6744 or submit immunization information online, by fax, by mail or by the ImmunizeCA app. Parents can visit parentinginottawa.ca/immunization for more details about how to submit their child’s immunization information to Ottawa Public Health.
OPH will be hosting “catch-up clinics” for students who are missing required vaccines and don't have a doctor. Students who provide exemptions to OPH for medical or philosophical reasons are not subject to suspensions; however, in the event of an outbreak, the child may be excluded from school while there is risk of transmission.
If you receive a letter from Ottawa Public Health, your cooperation and support to respond quickly is very much appreciated. Your efforts will help protect not only your child but will help ensure all our children are better protected against infectious diseases.
Bayshore's 50th Anniversary Celebration:
Our celebration will be postponed to later in the year, when the teacher labor concerns are resolved. We will notify the community when the new date has been set.
Re-organization at Bayshore P.S.:
Every September the Board reviews enrolment numbers in all schools. As a result of this review, we are required to make some changes in our classroom organization. Unfortunately, we have had to collapse our gr.2/3 class and have to say good-bye to a dedicated teacher. Ms. Brisebois will be moving to another school in the OCDSB and Ms. Summers will resume the grade 1 class. Other classroom movement has been required and a SK/gr. 1 has been created.
If your child is affected by this move, he/she will receive a letter today informing you of his/her new teacher.
Any questions, please call the office.
Thank you for your understanding and commitment to our school.

Dear Parents/Guardians and students of Bayshore P.S.
It is a great honor to be Bayshore Public School's newest principal. I am excited and look forward to working with students, parents, staff and the community. When Mr. Gervais took me for my first tour of Bayshore P.S. to meet the students and staff, I was thrilled that I would soon become part of such an amazing school. It was immediately evident that all teachers and support staff work together to ensure that all students are engaged in rich and varied educational experiences within a supportive learning community. The students were all welcoming with big smiles on their faces! Now that I am here, and spending time with staff, students and parents, I am seeing all of this on a daily basis!
Thank you to the parents that came out this week to the "Coffee with the New Principal". I look forward to having more of these gatherings as the year progresses.
A reminder that Kindergarten Information Night is Wednesday, January 21st from 5:30 - 6:30. Registration starts on Monday, January 26, 2015.

To: Parent/Guardians and students of Bayshore P.S.
I’ve had the pleasure to work at Bayshore P.S. as both a Vice-Principal and Principal for almost 6 years now. Bayshore P.S. is an amazing school with great children, very supportive parents and a very talented and dedicated staff. I am writing to you today to inform you that I will be leaving the Bayshore community and moving to another school, Katimavik Elementary School, beginning on January 5, 2015. Katimavik E.S. is a grade 4-8 school in Kanata in a neighbourhood where I grew up as a child so I am excited to be returning to this part of the city.
I would like to welcome Mrs. Monica Garvie as the new Principal of Bayshore P.S. Mrs. Garvie is currently the Principal at Farley Mowat Public School in Barrhaven. I have recently met with Mrs. Garvie and she is very excited to be the new Principal of Bayshore. Next week, Mrs. Garvie will be visiting the school and meeting with Mrs. Jackson and me so that we can share with her all of the great things happening at the school and to ensure that there is a smooth transition.
Bayshore P.S. has been a great place to work and I am going to miss the students, staff and parents in the Bayshore community. I wish you all of the best in the future.
Is your child in a combined grade? (i.e. Grade 1/2, 4/5) and not sure what a combined grade is?
